A Beginning in Crisis
Fact Hub Myanmar was founded in April 2022, during one of the most difficult periods in modern Myanmar. Schools were closed. Universities had been disrupted. The information landscape was flooded with fear, propaganda, and rumor — and young people had almost no access to reliable science education.
Three young people decided to do something about it. Without institutional backing, without funding, and without guarantees of safety, they built a publication from scratch — dedicated to science, to accuracy, and to the belief that Myanmar's youth deserved better information.
"We started because we were frustrated. There was so much misinformation, and almost nothing in Burmese that was both accurate and readable. We thought — if no one else is going to do this, we will."
— Founding team, Fact Hub MyanmarBuilding Something Lasting
In the early months, everything was improvised. Articles were written in free time, fact-checked through shared spreadsheets, and distributed through personal social media accounts. The team was small, the tools were minimal, but the commitment was total.
Word spread. Readers found us through Facebook and Telegram. Writers reached out wanting to contribute. Slowly, what had started as an urgent personal project became something larger: a genuine volunteer community, organized and purposeful, with shared editorial values.
By 2024, the organization had grown to include a formal three-board structure — Editorial, Operations, and Administration — with clearly defined roles, an official editorial policy, and a team of over 40 active volunteers. The work had also diversified: from science explainers to health myth-busting, from deep-dive features to quick fact-checks on viral misinformation.
Where We Stand Today
In 2025, Fact Hub Myanmar marked its third anniversary with more than 400 published articles and fact-checks. We have team members across Myanmar and beyond, all contributing their time and expertise as volunteers because they believe in what we're doing.
Our editorial standards hold a 90% minimum accuracy threshold, verified through a structured six-stage review pipeline. Every correction is documented publicly. Our content decisions are made independent of commercial or political influence.
We are proud of what we've built. And we're only getting started.
Our Milestones
Three founding members launch Fact Hub Myanmar as a volunteer science publication, publishing in Burmese.
First articles and fact-checks published. Readership grows organically through social media. Volunteer writers begin joining.
Formal organizational restructure into Editorial, Operations, and Administration boards. Official editorial policy ratified.
Third year of publishing. Over 400 original articles, fact-checks, and explainers. 40+ active volunteers across all three boards.
"In a place where accurate information is a form of resistance, we choose to keep writing, keep verifying, keep sharing. We continue, unrelentingly."
